Professional Experience
After leaving college John joined a team specialising in quoting and underwriting Pensions at Royal & Sun Alliance PLC, This was the start of a 10 year career in financial services which provided a wealth of experience together with various transferable and life skills. This experience in a highly regulated field gave him a solid foundation of Planning, Strategy and compliance which assisted in his transition to medical sales later in his professional life.
1999 - 2011: Financial Services
Following Royal and Sun Alliance John worked for HSBC and assisted in the creation of their Stakeholder Pensions department, Administration and underwriting of applications followed and professional qualifications (FPC 1). A move to colder climates (Manchester) saw john join a National IFA Firm working directly for the Senior Management team in an Operations Capacity and learning from the Senior Team. Professional Qualification FPC 2 was attained at this point. The last 7 years prior to moving back to Bristol were with Aegon as a Sales Consultant. This was the first Sales Role and the one that lit the fire for a career in the field. Multiple Training courses were provided to John at this point in his career and required daily contact with Financial Advisers to promote & sell the companies Pension, Investment & Retirement planning solutions. John had many successes and also a few learning experiences in the early part.

The 13 Hour Interview Day!
Whilst deciding the next move in Financial Services following a big change in the UK regulation of Financial Products, John was approached by Raw Talent recruitment.
John was invited to Interview for Olympus Medical after Raw Talent had got hold of his CV, they recognised the "Raw Talent" in John which led to an Interview day being held at Aston Villa Football Club.

The interview: Imagine The Apprentice meets Dragons Den and you have the basis what lay ahead. It was a three stage interview rolled into one and consisted of a day of tests, presentations, interviews and scrutiny. John fondly recalls one task being to pick an item out of a box and having 1 minute to pitch this item to a group of 40 People, What came out of the box was a Flip Flop tied to a Black Leather patent shoe!
There were 5 National Positions up for grabs and John was one of 4 Individuals who were successful and signed contracts that day for an exciting start into Medical Sales.
Renowned in the Industry for its excellent training programme which gave John the start in the Medical Field only a few can hope for. The role commenced with 6 months of training before being signed off on all competencies and being allowed into the field.
The training took place in Olympus Key Med in Southend on Sea and continued in the European Head office in Hamburg. Regular In-Field training sessions were organised throughout the UK at various NHS & Private Hospitals. The training consisted of Operating Room & Classroom based training to educate on Human Anatomy, Surgical & Medical procedure's and Olympus Products (Camera Systems, Endoscopes & HiQ+ Instruments)
His transferable skills, new approach and innovative mindset led to a successful 2 years as a territory manager.
Achievements:
Successfully sold the first two Olympus 3D camera systems to An NHS Hospital for a fee of £550,000 equating to 95% of annual target in one sale.
At PFM Medical, while my primary focus was on surgical mesh, my relationships with surgeons who regularly use laparoscopic instruments further solidified my knowledge and ability to support these tools in the operating room.
PFM Medical introduced new technologies into the UK Market which John assisted in bringing to the Surgical Teams in the south of the country. This was a great introduction to John for him to start to understand the Clinical Requirements surrounding new technology and devices and how to navigate this field.
Achievements:
TiMesh: Assisted Launch of Titanised Surgical Mesh for Plastic Surgery, General Surgery & Colorectal Surgery.
TissuGlu: Introduction of a new product to the UK market, acting as a distributor for accounts in the South of the country.
2020-Today: Steris IMS - Regional Sales Manager
Currently John serves as a Regional Sales Manager at Steris IMS, where he lead's a Dynamic team responsible for generating over £4.5m in Revenue last year, exceeding targets. The strategic approach to sales and business development has been instrumental in redefining working practices and implementing product propositions that have significantly increased margins.
As a key player in expanding Steris IMS's surgical instrument portfolio, He spearheaded the introduction of a new commercialised offering into the UK market to offer differentiation to competition and secure consistent revenue. This initiative included market research, training for sales teams, and direct engagement with key opinion leaders (KOLs) to ensure successful adoption.
Steris Restore: Developed and implemented a commercialised offering to generate and secure consistent long term revenue.
Instrumental in increasing Flexible Endoscopy maintenance business by 237% in one year.
Generated a working relationship with Operation Hernia to provide assistance to the growing surgical practice in underprivileged countries whilst enhancing Steris’ Corporate social Responsibility
Significant relationships with Category Managers in procurement services to leverage Economies of scale for multiple contracts within an ICS / Multiple trusts

Strategic Market Expansion for Surgical Instruments
As a key player in expanding Steris IMS's surgical instrument portfolio, I developed the introduction of a new commercialised offering into the UK market. This strategic plan offered differentiation to competition and secured consistent revenue. My strategy was an original initiative that included market research, training for sales teams, and direct engagement with key opinion leaders (KOLs) to ensure successful adoption. I constructed a comprehensive plan on areas of market research should be focused and developed and delivered the training module for the sales teams. I created a plan for sales team to follow that helped with their understanding and confidence on engaging with KOLs and supported large projects with individual projects.
Revenue Growth through Strategic Sales Initiatives
Leading a team of four Sales Consultants, I achieved a record-breaking £4.5m in revenue, surpassing our target of £4.4m. This was accomplished through a combination of innovative sales strategies, effective team management, and a deep understanding of the market's needs. In my current role as Regional Sales Manager at Steris IMS, I lead a dynamic team across the South of the UK, achieving a remarkable
